Kings Plant Barn
Retail Marketing and Graphic Design 2022–2026
Over three and a half years, I worked across Kings Plant Barn and its sister company, Awa Nursery, initially joining as a freelance designer providing creative support to the marketing team before transitioning into the role of sole in-house designer. During this time, I became responsible for delivering a wide range of design and visual communication projects across both businesses, bringing marketing campaigns, product launches and brand communications to life.
Working across both print and digital media, I collaborated closely with the marketing and sales teams to develop creative assets that communicated product information, supported promotional activities and maintained a consistent brand identity. My role combined creative problem-solving with the practical demands of a fast-paced retail environment, requiring me to manage multiple projects, adapt artwork for different audiences and formats, and deliver high-quality materials within tight deadlines.
Key responsibilities included:
Designing promotional signage, magazines, flyers and other marketing collateral.
Creating product feature signs, product information materials and sales support resources.
Developing point-of-sale materials, in-store displays and retail signage for a range of retail environments.
Supporting product launches, seasonal promotions and integrated marketing campaigns.
Creating digital content for the company website, email marketing campaigns and social media.
Adapting and preparing artwork for different campaigns, print specifications and digital formats.
Preparing print-ready artwork and ensuring accurate, high-quality production outputs.
Editing, cropping, resizing and retouching product imagery for use across marketing channels.
Maintaining and organising the companies' product photography libraries and digital assets.
Developing and maintaining branded templates and design resources to support consistent communications.
Ensuring all creative work adhered to established brand guidelines and maintained a cohesive visual identity across both businesses.
Collaborating with marketing and sales teams to translate briefs, ideas and business requirements into effective visual solutions.
Managing multiple projects, feedback rounds, revisions and deadlines while balancing ongoing design requests.
Providing ongoing creative support across both businesses, ensuring marketing and sales teams had the visual materials needed to communicate effectively.
Through this role, I developed a strong understanding of the relationship between design, marketing and retail, while building the ability to manage projects independently from brief to final delivery. Progressing from freelance support to becoming the sole in-house designer gave me the opportunity to take greater ownership of the companies' visual communications, establish efficient design workflows and deliver creative work across a broad range of applications.
